Bobcats bite Millers

Guildford Millers 7 – 13 Tonbridge Bobcats

The Millers met Tonbridge for the second time in three games with this fixture potentially being crucial in the race for the top spot in Pool D.

Guildford made their only regular season trip to Tonbridge and started well by plating two runs but not without the Bobcats answering by batting around and adding six of their own. They continued this good form by adding a further two without reply to take a healthy early 7-2 lead. The Miller pitcher Tetsuro Shinkawa made sure that the first two innings were one-offs by completing a 1-2-3 inning in the third.

Hits were lower than in previous games and both teams made some good plays keeping runners off base. Right fielder Richard King took a couple of great catches, one being a diving catch in front of him.

A pitching change by Tonbridge to bring Dave Mote in allowed more Guildford base runners. The home team’s defence held and allowed just four runs in the last and the Bobcats lead held throughout the game despite a late charge from Guildford.

Shinkawa had a season best nine innings striking out ten batters.

Guildford’s busy schedule takes a well-earned breather as they have two weeks off before facing Richmond in their final home game.
