Beginners Baseball Sessions – Autumn 2017

Guildford Baseball & Softball club will be running its annual Beginners Baseball course, in October and November this year.will coaching

The course is aimed at anyone, aged 16 and up, who is new to the game or with little previous experience, and who would like to try the sport or is just looking for something new.

The course consists of 6 sessions,  with each session focusing on a specific skill of the game, in a series of different activities to help build up both the understanding and ability to perform that skill. These will be combined with education on both the rules and the strategy of the game, and usually rounded off each week, with a mini-game based on that week’s instruction. Everyone is allowed to progress at their own rate in order to both gain an understanding of how to play the game, as well as giving participants the confidence to start playing in more organised games and training sessions.

All equipment is provided and so you only need to turn up in clothing suitable for indoor activity. Following on from these sessions, the club moves into it’s off season and pre-season training sessions early in the New Year, which attendance on this course, will give you free entry to. During January and February, these will also be indoors, and generally with a focus on hitting and pitching. If you then decide you wish to carry on and join the club, you will be added to one of the squads for the 2018 baseball season.

Dates
The course will run on a Sunday afternoon from 2-3pm. The first session is Sun 15th Oct, and the last one on Sun 19th Nov. We ask that all participants arrive 15 mins before we start, so that we can ensure a prompt start, especially at the first session.

Location
All sessions are at Broadwater School Sports Centre in Godalming (GU7 3BW), which is on Summers Road, just off the B3000, broadwater sports hall_0327and easily accessible from either the A3 at Compton, or from Guildford. Just note that the entrance to the Sports Centre is at the back at the school, and parking is on the tennis courts to the right hand side, as you enter (going to the left side of the school takes you into Guildford Hockey Club).

Cost
Cost is £25 for the whole 6 weeks, and also entitles you to join the club pre-season training sessions, that will follow on early in the New Year. This needs to be payable at the start of the first session you attend, and can either be by cheque made payable to Guildford Baseball & Softball Club or by online payment in advance (please contact us, and we will provide details). Cash payment can also be taken, but please put inside an envelope with your name on.

Attendance
You can just turn up on the first day, although it is helpful to us, if you register in advance, by replying to this email, as it enables us to plan better and ensure we have the right amount of equipment with us on the day. We appreciate not everyone is always able to make every session, and so will endeavour to help you catch up with any sessions that you miss, although obviously it is beneficial to attend as many as you can.

To register or if you would like to find out more about the course and/or the club, then please do not hesitate to contact us
