Ariana is off to Hungary

DSCF4481Guildford Baseball Club are pleased to confirm that one of their members, Ariana Lanfermeijer, has been picked to represent GB at U12DSCF4112 level at the upcoming Youth European Championships in Hungary. Not only will she be representing her club and country, but is also the first girl to be picked for the GB U12 team.

GB Head Coach, Chris Ward, commented “I am thrilled to have Ariana on the Great Britain U12 National Team. She has worked relentlessly over the last few years, throwing 3-4 days per week, hitting regularly and playing other sports which has put her into an excellent position to represent Great Britain Baseball. Our mission is to Inspire, Develop and Perform and with the Women’s European Baseball Championships, she will be an inspiration, not only to other girls who know they can compete at youth age groups, but also for the women whose places she will chasing in a few years time. This is just the start of an exciting journey.

Ariana is off to Hungary on 29th June and GB will be participating in the tournament until the 6th July, intially against Slovakia and Romania, with (hopefully) the play-offs to follow that.

Obviously getting the love for baseball from her father Stefan, who played with the club, having picked up the bug himself during flight training in the US, Ariana was first noticed by club coach Brian Kendal, who encouraged her to play more. Like most good athletes, Ariana is always playing other sports such as football and cricket for Cranleigh, although she particularly enjoys being a fast bowler at cricket. No doubt some of these skills have transferred to the baseball diamond. Ariana also participated in the some of the open days for the woman’s GB team, so hopefully in a few years time they are going to have a welcome addition to their squad

All at the club wish Ariana the very best at the Euros, and look forward to hearing about her and the teams exploits, on her return in July.
